MODENA Launches 'Re-Styling the Future' Campaign in Effort to Reduce Textile Waste

Jakarta, Indonesia – As one of the leading brands of household appliances, MODENA continues to inspire people to participate in protecting the environment. While still in the spirit of the “MODENA for Earth” campaign, now MODENA instills the belief that everyone can take part in protecting the environment and fighting climate change by doing small but impactful things together.

“Per year, an average of 90 tons of textiles around the world become waste. As one of the main points at our MODENA for Earth event that we held on Earth Day yesterday, MODENA responded to the issue by partnering up with Setali Indonesia to launch our newest campaign, 'Re-styling The Future', in an effort to reduce textile waste in Indonesia,” said Bagus Prastowo, as Director of MODENA. "Our collaboration with Setali Indonesia aims to bring new life to used clothing materials into useful new items while at the same time increasing public awareness by promoting the issue of textile waste, which is currently the second-largest contributor to environmental pollution in the world after oil."

Setali Indonesia is a non-profit organization that was founded in 2018 with a focus on giving life back to old clothing materials by upcycling and turning the used clothes into more valuable products. The increasing volume of textile waste every year encourages Setali Indonesia to make significant efforts to help reduce textile waste. "Aside from being active in recycling activities, we are also active in socializing and educating the public about the importance of processing textile waste, decluttering, and ethical fashion, and how to choose more sustainable fabrics," said Andien Aisyah, Co-Founder & Advisor of Setali Indonesia.

In this campaign, MODENA provides a dropbox for the public to donate their used clothes, which later on will be given to Setali Indonesia. Starting from November, drop boxes will be distributed in all MODENA Experience Centers, such as Kemang, Suryo, and Satrio, as well as in several MODENA Home Centers such as Pantai Indah Kapuk and Kelapa Gading.

To donate, the following steps must be considered:

1. Sort out the clothes you want to donate

2. Donations can be in the form of clothes or accessories made from cloth

3. If you donate clothes that are not fit for use, cut the clothes into several pieces

4. Customers can drop their used clothes to the drop boxes provided at the MODENA showrooms and outlets below:

"It doesn't just end here, the clothes donated will then be processed by Setali Indonesia by also empowering street tailors who are experiencing difficulties during this pandemic, so they too will feel the positive impact of this activity," said Bagus. "After being upcycled, the results will be in the form of new items such as bags, masks, pencil cases, blankets, and others which we will distribute to foundations or orphanages later on."

“We are very excited to collaborate with MODENA in this campaign. We hope the public can be more aware of the environmental pollution issue and can participate in making the simple effort to reduce clothing waste,” said Andien.

"Of course, we will not stop making these efforts. As long as global warming and environmental pollution exist, we are determined to also continue to fight it in the future," continued Bagus Prastowo. "We hope that the people of this country can be inspired to love our Earth even more and make changes for the sake of our future."
